Athletic Director Don Riley to Retire
Montini Catholic High School’s Athletic Director, Don Riley, will retire after twenty-six years of service and dedication to Broncoland!  In Don’s first 10 years at Montini Catholic, he had the opportunity to coach football, baseball, and was the Varsity Girls Basketball Head Coach. Don’s efforts are felt by everyone from the Principal and the President to the Teachers and the Students. Don plans to enjoy his retirement, traveling frequently, particularly spending extended time in San Diego.  “I see a great amount of golf in my future,” Don says with a big smile.  Don says he will miss the interaction with the parents of the Booster Club (Parent-Run Athletic Support Program), the men of the Linesman Club (Organization of Alumni and Alumni Parents who prepare the football field for game days), and the Press Box Crew. He said he will also miss the interaction with all the Suburban Catholic Conference Athletic Directors. Don was asked to sum up the last 26 years, “…being around the students, and especially athletics, has kept me in a young state of mind.  The friendships that have been developed inside and outside of the school are truly special and will remain a priority in my life for the rest of my years, and I have Montini to thank for that!” To leave a note for Mr. Riley on the Alumni Message boards, please click here.

Basketball Reunions Approaching Soon!

All Boys Basketball players are invited to cheer the Broncos on against Marmion Academy on February 6th at 7:30 PM. Please let us know if you will be able to attend either event by emailing us at alumni@montini.org.

Bronco Wrestlers Win the Dvorak
The Bronco Varsity Wrestling Program competed and won the championship at the 32 Team Dvorak Memorial Wrestling Invitational at the end of December.  The Dvorak Invitational is generally regarded as the toughest Tournament in Illinois.  The win was impressive, as the Tournament field imbedded nationally ranked Team Bishop Lynch High School from Texas (who is currently the top ranked team in Texas and are ranked 11th in the County by Amateur Wrestling News) and Iowa City West High School (currently ranked 19th in the Country by Amateur Wrestling News).  Other top Illinois teams that were also competition that Montini Catholic Broncos defeated: Providence Catholic, Oak Park River Forest, Plainfield Central, Mount Carmel, and Neuqua Valley High School. Amateur Wrestling News is currently ranking Montini Catholic Broncos as the 13th in the Country!

Lady Broncos Win Tournament, Senior Named MVP
Senior girls basketball player, Michala Johnson, has been named the Most Valuable Player of the Christmas Tournament hosted at Montini Catholic.  Michala Johnson averaged 19.4 points, 11. 3 rebounds, and 4.4 blocks per game, during the first-ever Montini Catholic Christmas tournament. In doing so, Michala won MVP honors and helped lead the Lady Broncos to their team title with impressive wins on 3 consecutive nights over top-ranked teams. The Lady Bronco’s are now 17-1 on the season and currently ranked #1 in the State AP class 3A poll.
